Aamir Liaquat: “The Controversial King” of the Pakistan’s television Industry

Dr Aamir Liaqat Hussain, one of the most controversial, extremely popular TV industry personality and a politician passed away on Thursday. He was the son of politician Sheikh Liaquat Husain born in Karachi in 1972. The multi-talented Aamir Liaquat slipped into many roles throughout his career. He started his career journey as a journalist and very soon entered into the national political sphere and was elected as the Member of the National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan in 2002 at a very young age by joining Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and was soon appointed as Minister of State for Religious Affairs.

However, it was his role as the host of television show ‘Aalim Online’ that granted Aamir Liaquat both national and international popularity. He also introduced the concept of Live Ramzan shows on national television which broke records of the viewership. The trendsetter also pioneered the revival of game shows on small screens during Ramzan transmission which remains popular to date and has been replicated by many celebrities.

In2018, he joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and was re-elected to the National Assembly as the candidate of PTI but resigned from his seat in 2022 due to political differences and left PTI. Aamir Liaquat, who had been a great public-speaker throughout his life, often landed himself into controversies due to his statements which entangled both his professional and personal life. The entertainment and political world personality, who married thrice saw his domestic life regularly make its way to the media. Following his recent notorious separation from his third wife Dania Shah, Aamir Liaquat isolated himself from public life and announced that he wanted to leave the country. However, on Thursday the televangelist was found dead at his residence in Karachi. He is succeeded by two children from his first wife Dr Bushra Iqbal, Dua and Ahmed.
