Pakistan will use UK expertise and support to discover new, and potentially more dangerous, variants of COVID-19 using the New Variant Assessment Platform (NVAP) programme.
COVID genetic variation is best documented in the UK also the second largest contributor to the worldwide database of COVID. The UK has agreed to share its knowledge and reagents with Pakistan in order to increase the country’s capacity for genomic sequencing. The assistance will also include technical support on bio-informatics workflow and technological procedures.
Dr. Christian Turner, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan said:
