Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said that they have been working with the Ministry of Information Technology and other stakeholders since April 2017 on the licence renewal framework as licences of three telecom service providers are going to expire this year. PTA said that, “The renewal of licence and associated spectrum at the end of a licence period will be as per policy of the government. In case of renewal of licences, PTA will make recommendations to the federal government within the timelines stipulated in the respective licences.”
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued this statement after an article was published in the Express Tribune stating that the telecom operators were worried over delay in the renewal of their licences.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a statement and emphasized that all procedures related to licence renewal were being handled in a timely manner. They are keeping in view the established benchmarks, spectrum and technological roadmap and market dynamics, so that the government, consumers and telecom operators may continue to benefit.
Moreover, according to official documents, the government has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee. The government is expecting up to $2 billion in inflows through likely resolution of government-Etisalat (PTCL privatization) dispute and renewal of cellular licenses in the current fiscal year 2018-19.
